How to Build High-Strength Plastic Ducting ?
Two-Line Summary
If you want plastic ducting that won't rust, runs quietly, and requires minimal maintenance, keep it simple: Fold → Join → Seal.
Bend PP/HDPE/PVC sheets with a Thermoplastic Sheet Bending Machine to add built-in stiffness, then use a Plastic Tank Welding Machine to hot-press overlap seams into continuous joints, and finally reinforce and seal flanges and transitions.
Who This Is For
• Aquaculture sites, food plants, pool equipment rooms, labs, coastal/chemical workshops
• Teams that value lightweight installation, low noise, fast field repair, and lower TCO
Our method in one line: Fold – Join – Seal

1) Fold
Use a PP/PVC/PE Sheet Bending Machine to form standing edges, turned-back lips, and ring stiffeners.
For rectangular sections, add bent ribs and corner blocks so panels feel “stiff out of the box.”
2) Join
Roll into round shapes or assemble into rectangular shells.
Use a Plastic Sheet Butt Welder to hot-press overlap seams into wide, flat, continuous joints with stable strength and airtightness.
(If your project occasionally requires sheet-to-sheet butt joints, you can add a Plastic Panel Butt Welder—the core duct seams still rely on overlap welding.)
3) Seal
Finish leak-prone details—flanges, elbows, tees.
Turn back a lip for the flange, add gasket + bolts, and use hot-air tools for activation and tacking before final sealing.
Why Choose Plastic Ducting (PP/HDPE/PVC)?
• Corrosion-free: Suitable for salty, humid, and many chemical environments
• Stiff & quiet: Bent rings + wide, flat welded seams resist ballooning/collapse; plastics damp vibration
• Lightweight & fast to install: Easier to lift than metal; faster field assembly
• Easy to clean & repair: Minor dents can be hot-repaired on site, minimizing downtime
Step-by-Step Manufacturing
Blanking & CNC Features
Nest and cut sheets; on a CNC router finish circular interpolation, tongue-and-groove/lands, holes, and chamfers for consistent fit-up.
Bending
Use a Plastic Sheet Welding and Bending Machine to create standing edges, turned-back flanges, ring stiffeners, and ribs. This “pre-stiffening” shortens weld length and boosts rigidity.
Rolling & Assembly
Use jigs to control roundness and straightness.
Seam Hot-Pressing
With a Thermoplastic Sheet Welder, run heat → pressure/hold → clamp-cool to produce continuous overlap seams.
Flanges & Fittings
Turned-back lips + gasket + bolts; prefer large-radius elbows/tees to reduce pressure loss and stress.
Checks & Leak Test
Visual + dimensional checks, followed by smoke/low-pressure leak testing with photos for traceability.

Round vs. Rectangular: Choosing a Section & Starting Thickness
• Round: Naturally stronger against positive/negative pressure
• Rectangular: Add ribs on the long side, corner blocks, and turned-back flanges for stability
Quick Spec Cheat-Sheet (starting points—adjust per project)
• ≤ 400 mm diameter/side → 3–5 mm sheet; ring spacing 600–800 mm
• 400–800 mm → 5–8 mm sheet; ring spacing 400–600 mm
• ≥ 800 mm → 8–10 mm+ sheet; ring spacing 300–450 mm
• Rectangular long side → add bent ribs every 250–400 mm
Materials & Outdoor Use
• PP: Room-temperature process air & aquaculture facilities
• HDPE: Impact toughness & cold tolerance—excellent outdoors
• PVC-U: Cost-effective for room-temperature lines
• Outdoors: choose black, carbon-black UV-stabilized, or explicitly UV-stabilized grades
FAQs
Q1: High airflow/pressure—will it bulge or collapse?
Use closer ring spacing with a Plastic Sheet Forming Bender and wider, flatter seams with a Plastic Sheet Welding Equipment; long runs are split into flanged sections for stability.
Q2: Corrosive gases—what about compatibility?
Match the resin (PP/HDPE/PVC) and use compatible gaskets for durable sealing.
Q3: Is installation difficult?
No—sections are lightweight, flanged joints go together quickly, and hanger spacing/mounting guidance is provided.
Q4: Can we repair on-site?
Yes—minor dents/cracks are hot-repairable with standard hot-air tools, keeping downtime short.
